Assassin's Creed fans, prepare yourselves: Ubisoft has released two of their games from their historical fiction, blockbuster, Assassins-vs-Templars franchise. Assassin's Creed Rogue will allow you to control a Templar, while Unity has co-op for the first time in franchise history. If you're playing on a console and want to look at what Unity has to offer, continue reading on to learn a few things about Rogue before deciding to pick it up.

Templars

For the first time in this series, you'll get a chance to spend the entire game in enemy's shoes. In Assassin's Creed Rogue, you can play as Shay Patrick Cormer, a 21 y/o Assassin who betrays the brotherhood to become their rival - a templar. This most likely means that there will be missions where you get to attack and kill some of your former allies, which will without a doubt have huge ramifications for the future of the Assassin's brotherhood. The story of Shay ties to Unity uniquely, and characters from the past games like Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin's Creed III will make their appearances just to make you feel guilty.

Multiplayer

Like aforementioned, for the first time in the series since 2010's Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the third game - Rogue will have no multiplayer of any sort. Fans enjoyed the competitive modes of past iterations where death matches were strategic operations of fleeing hunters and stalking prey. But considering how thin Ubisoft was stretched in order to publish both games in the same year, and one of them being a new-gen game, the lack of multiplayer mode is hardly surprising, and it isn't as disappointing. Unity lacks competitive multiplayer as well, however, what makes up for it is the new co-op mode.

Naval Combat

Something that Rogue has that Unity doesn't is the amazing naval combat of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. No other game has managed to capture the jolly, sea-faring awesomeness the way Assassin's Creed has, so fans of ship-based combat and navigation have something to be happy about. You can ride the open seas using cannons to down other enemies and ships. Considering the past games, it's completely possible for pirates or other enemies to board your ship, or for you to board an enemy ship for melee combat on the deck.

Air Rifle

Shay has a nice new toy to take out his former brotherhood comrades. The air rifle is a silent weapon that can kill enemies at a long distance. It can be loaded with firecrackers to distract opponents. The air rifle is a response from Unity's phantom blade which allows Arno (protagonist) to quietly shoot down hidden blades from his wrist for ranged assassinations. Moreover, Shay also gets a grenade launcher to fend off assassins who pop out and stab from crowds, bushes or above.

Rogue Happens During the Seven Years' War

Rogue takes players through several locations, most of them cold and snowy. This is the latest UPLAY game. It takes place 1752-1761 during the Seven Year's War and allows players to go through various locations in North America like Alabama, the frozen water of the North Atlantic, New York, Quebac, etc. Unity on the other hand takes places in revolutionary Paris, so Rogue can be seen as a sequel to Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag due to the familiar mechanics, location and the returning of characters.
